70 years creating the Energy of the future | Ep. 03 – “REN – Fernão Ferro Substation”

A REN (Redes Energéticas Nacionais) is a Portuguese company responsible for the transport of electricity and natural gas, with quality and safety, within the national grid.

In the 1970s, at a time when Sotécnica began to develop skills in the high voltage area, REN, at the time known as CNE (National Electricity Company), put forward a project with the objective of increasing the guarantee of supply to the electricity consumption in the Setúbal peninsula.

In the construction of Fernão Ferro Substation, Sotécnica was responsible for the general electrical installation, including the electrical command and protection project, the manufacture of electrical switchboards, relay racks and logic units, as well as the installation of this equipments in the substation and the entire outdoor park.

The project of electrical installations at the Fernão Ferro Substation marks not only the integration, up to date, of a new technology of essential equipment for the operation of the substations, but also the affirmation of what would be a long journey for Sotécnica in the area of high voltage electricity.
