Brand Stories: Diana Coimbra, QES Technician (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment)

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Diana Coimbra and I am 30 years old. I am an occupational health and safety technician at work and have been working at Sotécnica for about 5 years, currently working in Integrated Management Services.

Have you always worked in the Quality, Environment and Safety area? What has been your career path at Sotécnica until today?

When I joined Sotécnica, I hadn’t finished the course in occupational health and safety technician – I just needed the practical internship to finish it, which I have done here at the company. I started as an operational technician in the maintenance area (which is now split into MSS, MSN, MMP and VFP), before moving on to the Quality, Environment and Safety area. Since then I have also worked at Omexom Portugal and, about a year and a half ago, I returned to Sotécnica to work in Integrated Management Services, the department in charge of Quality, Environment, Safety and Well-being.

Being Safety one of the main pillars of our activity, do you feel that people are sensitive to meet the “zero accidents” goal? What are the main challenges at this level for someone who, like you, works in Safety?

In the last years, since I joined Sotécnica, there has been an increasing engagement in this area, with a clear commitment from the entire organization to create a better safety culture. This commitment is visible, for example, at the level of security technicians’ team, which has practically doubled since I arrived here!

The pressure created by the pursuit of profit and business growth is one of the greatest barriers to safety. It is important to strike a balance that ensures the safety and well-being of workers and other stakeholders from the very beginning of each project.

What does it mean for you to be part of a brand like Sotécnica? Which are your prospects for the future?

In addition to the security of working in a company with 70 years of existence and well established in the market, it represents a challenge for constant learning and growth and for a continuous improvement that I hope to reflect in my personal life, as well as in the development of my professional career.
