Installation of a high voltage capacitor park and replacement of the lightning protection system

Sotécnica’s maintenance area completed the installation of a high voltage capacitor park on São João Hospital, one of the most important hospital units in Portugal.

The capacitor Battery Park has a total power of 1150 kVar, distributed over five transformation stations. The entire sizing study of each of the equipments to be installed was developed by Sotécnica through data collection at the transformation stations through a certified energy analyzer, for a period that allowed to characterize the equipment’s consumption profile.

In addition to the installation of the high voltage capacitor park, Sotécnica has replaced the atmospheric discharge protection system in order to ensure compliance with the NP4426 standards – “Protection of structures and open areas by lightning bolts with Non-radioactive ionising device” and its addendum of 2013. The size and importance of the complex obligate the implementation of a system of protection against the effects of atmospheric discharges, as these effects endanger not only people but also the installations, with particular emphasis on electrical and electronic installations.

Finally, Sotécnica also proceeded to identify and collect the radioactive lightning rods of the building and its delivery to the competent entity for further issuance of the collection certificate by the Technological and Nuclear Institute (TNI).
